Crewing Misthria: Expectations & Roles

Crewing Misthria is about helping bring the world to life. Whether you’re a grizzled combat veteran, a silver-tongued menace, or a calm hand keeping the game running smoothly, crew are the engine that makes the weekend unforgettable for the players.

Crew tickets are free, and while crew are not catered, you’ll be fully part of the event: telling stories, shaping moments, and creating the memories players will talk about long after the game ends.

There are three main crew roles in Misthria. Each has a different focus, but all are vital to the smooth running of the game.

NPC, Skirmish and Scout

General Crew Expectations

Regardless of role, all crew share a few core expectations:

  • You are here to support player experience, not compete with it

  • You’ll be asked to play multiple roles over the weekend

  • Flexibility is key. Plans will change, and that’s part of the fun

  • You are expected to listen to refs, communicate clearly, and ask if unsure

  • Respect for players, crew, site, and kit is non-negotiable

Crew are often active throughout the day and evening, though we will do our best to rotate people and accommodate different energy levels and access needs. If you need lighter roles or reduced physical activity, just tell us, we’d much rather know upfront.

Crew Roles

NPC CREW (Low Com)

NPC crew are the faces of the world.

This role focuses on non-player characters with minimal combat expectations. NPC crew may be:

  • Embedded in town as locals, merchants, travellers, or faction members

  • Used for social encounters, rumours, plot hooks, or atmosphere

  • Occasionally part of structured encounters with light or optional combat

NPC crew are ideal if you:

  • Prefer roleplay and interaction over fighting

  • Like character acting, improv, and storytelling

  • Want to ease into LARP crewing or try lots of different roles

You may play several characters over the weekend, sometimes swapping quickly between roles. You’ll be given direction, motivation, and support, you don’t need to invent everything yourself.

Skirmish Crew (High Com)

Skirmish crew are here to fight.

This role is for crew who enjoy high-energy, physical play and are comfortable being part of repeated combat encounters. Skirmish crew will generally:

  • Play enemies and threats during structured encounters

  • Be used primarily out of town, with limited in-town appearances

  • Fight multiple times per day, sometimes back-to-back

Skirmish crew are expected to:

  • Be physically capable of sustained combat

  • Follow combat calls, ref instructions, and safety rules precisely

  • Lose fights when required, your role is to challenge, not to win

This role is perfect if you love combat LARP, want to push yourself, and enjoy being part of big, cinematic encounters.

Scout/Ref Crew

Scouts/Refs are the glue that holds the game together.

This is a high-responsibility role combining in-character play with out-of-character awareness. Scouts/Refs will:

  • Act as an in-character bridge between players and the game team

  • Manage and set up encounters from the job board

  • Coordinate with Skirmish crew to prepare those encounters

  • Lead player groups to encounters and oversee their flow

  • Ref larger encounters when the job board is inactive

Scouts/Refs are expected to:

  • Be calm, communicative, and confident

  • Understand the rules and setting well

  • Make judgement calls and escalate issues when needed

  • Keep the game moving smoothly and safely

This role is vital to Misthria’s structure and pacing. If you enjoy responsibility, problem-solving, and enabling other people’s fun, this role is for you.

Practical Notes:
  • Crew tickets are free

  • Crew are not catered, please bring your own food and follow the site guidance for drinking water

  • Bring suitable base layers and footwear for long days and changing weather

  • We have a supply of crew kit, but personal kit is welcome, we currently have no store of weapons!

  • Expect to be active, on call, and involved throughout the event

A full brief for each event, including tone, factions, kit notes, encounters and specific expectations will be shared ahead of time.

Why Crew?

Crewing Misthria means being part of the story from the inside. You’ll see plots unfold, help create dramatic moments, and be surrounded by people who love this hobby as much as you do.

If you want to learn, experiment, contribute, and have a cracking weekend of roleplay, we’d love to have you onboard.
